How the title was won

2025/26 Season

2025/26 — Champions in dramatic fashion

Makeni All Stars capped their rapid rise by winning the 2025/26 ZPL National Men's League title. The championship was sealed dramatically on the final matchday (17 May 2026): hosts Mpulungu Harbour failed to fulfil the fixture, and Makeni were awarded an away walkover — securing the title without the team kicking a ball. It capped a strong run-in that included a 3–1 home win over Kafue Celtic and a battling 3–2 away victory at River Plate.

The run-in showed a side comfortable in the biggest moments: a goalless stalemate at home to Trident, a battling 3–2 win away at River Plate, and hard-fought points against Jumulo and Chirundu United all kept Makeni in control of their own destiny before the decisive final matchday.

2025 Season

2025 — The promotion playoffs

Makeni All Stars secured promotion to the National Division One League during the 2025 National League Playoffs held in Lusaka. The side went unbeaten through their group-stage fixtures, defeating Teta FC and Nangweshi Pirates before completing a perfect run with a 2–1 win over Roan United at Edwin Imboela Stadium.

Striker Penias Tonga was the standout performer in that decisive match, scoring twice to confirm the club's promotion with a game to spare.
